The 100% Silva Lesson

Inside Silvatree, members pay each other in Silva pounds instead of cash. New members almost always ask the same question: why does it have to be all Silva? Would half-and-half not be fairer?

This lesson answers it with arithmetic rather than assertion. Everyone starts with the same cash in the bank and the same Silva to spend. You buy some services, you sell some of your own, and delivering your own sale costs you real cash every time. Run that round-trip both ways and pick the one that leaves more in the bank.

This is the same story a Capacity Consultant would walk you through on a suitability call. Figures are illustrative.

What this story shows

  • The matching rule is simple: you pay the way you get paid.
  • Mixing the two lets one member pull cash out of another, which is why it is not allowed.
  • Silva pounds are denominated at parity with sterling — S£1 is £1 of value — but they are not cash and cannot be withdrawn as cash.
  • A deliberately simplified worked example, chosen to make the mechanism visible.
